Finding out the BIG news!

Wow, so I never thought that I would get into this whole blog thing, but I caved!  I think that this is a great way to share my experiences as a first time mom and keep everyone updated on what is going on in our lives.  I wanted to first share my story of my pregnancy and Blake's birth.  So, here goes...

Jon and I started "trying" to get pregnant in August/September 2009.  I thought that it would be easy, I mean there is only one way to get pregnant!  Well, it took us a little longer than we thought it would.  After several months of getting our hopes up and your brain always seems to think you are pregnant (no, I am not crazy, trust me, when you are trying, you will do the same thing!).  Every month I would think that I had pregnancy "symptoms," only to find out it was my monthly friend.  In March, my period was about 5 days late (mind you, my cycle was never all that regular).  I honestly said the month before, when it happens, it happens, no more of these mind games I kept playing with myself.  I decided one Monday morning before work and after Jon had left for work that I would take a pregnancy test.  I took it at about 6:30 on March 15th and jumped in the shower to get ready for work.  I completely forgot that I took the test and when I got out of the shower, I was like, well,  I know it is going to be negative (which is why I took it without Jon there!).  I grabbed the test, looked down, and BAM, there were two pink lines!!!!  I looked at myself in our bathroom mirror and didn't know how to react!  I immediately started tearing up and then I realized I had to wait to tell Jon, because he was at work.  I had to get to a meeting in Avon Park that morning for work, so on the way, I kept debating calling into work and telling my boss I needed the day off and then going to the school and telling Jon.  I decided aganist that, because I did not want to tell Jon at the high school, I wanted to do it privately.  So, I made my way down to Avon Park and stopped at Walgreens on the way to pick up some more tests, just to be sure.  Once I got to work, I went to the bathroom and took two more tests and they were both positive.  Needless to say, I was giddy all day and I couldn't tell anyone!  On the way home from work that day, I bought a pack of diapers and when I got home I taped the pregnancy tests to them and wrapped them for Jon.  When he got home, I told him I got him a present (he thought it was a Columbia polo he had been wanting!).  He started opening the gift and starred at the pregnancy tests and said, "You're pregnant?!"  He then proceeds to give me a high five...LOL...it must be a baseball thing.  He then realized I was for real and hugs and kisses me.  It is really a weird feeling finding out you are expecting, because you don't really know how to react.  It is almost like an out of body experience, because you are so excited and nervous all at the same time.  Of course, we then call our family and close friends to let them the great news!

Our first Doctor's appointment was when we were 10 weeks along.  Everything was going great, until the Dr. tried to find the baby's heartbeat.  Because she was so little (I was only 10 weeks), the Dr. had a hard time finding the heartbeat and sent us for an immediate ultrasound.  She told us not to be worried, because the baby was the size of a lima bean and it was sometimes hard to pick up the heartbeat.  Of course, being the worrier I am, I got a little emotional.  I wanted to make sure everything with our little one was okay.  Turns out, everything was fine and her heartbeat was strong.  We also got to see our little lima bean for the first time!

At the end of June, we found out that we were having a little girl!  We were up in the air on names, it was between Brooke Ellen, Reese Ellen, and Blake Ellen.  I knew that I wanted Blake all along, but Jon was not so sure.  We eventually decided on Blake Ellen and we absolutely love her name and it fits her perfectly!  She is not a Brooke or a Reese :)  After we found out the sex, of course, my mom, sister, Jon, and I had to go shopping!  She is going to be the best dressed little girl in Lake Wales!
